Update on LIFE

2 min read

Sorry I have been MIA on here...just rarely get the time to devote to chillaxing on the computer.

This week has been slow at work so I am catching up on life. Last week was kind of crazy. My boss called me in on my day off for emergency surgery on the most beautiful G. Pyrenees ever...10 yrs old with acute GDV (think Marley and Me). Amazingly he survived and is doing great. Love happy endings.

Also I GOT MY DOBERMAN!! Actually I have had her since March. She is from Croatia from a wonderful breeder who is really focused on the health and temperament of the breed, preserving the true doberman. Good looks are just a bonus :) And of course, I kept her tail and ears. She is one of the few good breeders who encouraged me in this rather than told me I was massacring the breed (ahem, by leaving it the way God intended it). She will be a year in January so we are starting agility now. She LOVES it.

I am still running and have done a handful of 5Ks and a 1/2 Marathon since my big race at the beginning of this year. Now that I cut my mileage back closer to 20-30 per week, my knee problems have magically disappeared, ha!

Loves!

TAPER!!

2 min read

In 10 days I run my first (and only?) marathon, in honor of

:iconmim304:

Which means, this week I get to taper! My knees are thanking me. I had a minor overuse injury, but luckily my best friend is a doctor of physical therapy and she set me back on track a few weeks ago. Seems to be doing well now, but yeah, taper all the way!
The only trouble is that now my 3 mile runs feel like 8 mile runs, because it is stinking COLD out. I tend to function best when it is 70 degrees out, not 7. (Ok, ok, it's not quite that cold; I think today was a whopping 20 degrees with a windchill of 9.) Even in $150 worth of super-warm running gear, I feel like a Popsicle by the end. I can't wait to get to FL and be warm again!!! Bring on the sun!

Ok, when I said I thought I was crazy for signing up for a marathon, I was so right, but this has truly been an adventure, and I am glad I decided to embark! What my husband and I are working on now is not to try to force ourselves to get done in a certain time, but rather to relax and enjoy the run. If you can call something this painful enjoyable, lol. Yesterday was our longest run so far--17 miles! Only 9.2 more to go. Yipes.

HALF way there!

Half Marathon? Check.

This was after the Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank 1/2 Marathon in Detroit this month. Chip time 2:04:58. Was hoping for 2 hrs but wasn't really expecting it, so for my first ever, I'll take it! The coolest part of the run was that we got to go across the Ambassador Bride from Detroit MI USA to Windsor ON Canada. The sun was rising as we were running across...Unforgettable. We ran through the tunnel to return to the USA, and it was just a bit too claustrophobic for my liking, but also memorable. Worst mistake ever and lesson learned...if someone offers you M&Ms 10 miles into a race...say No!
Crossing the finish line I could NOT imagine turning around and running the whole thing over again. How am I ever going to do this marathon?!!
