I got a new dog!!!!
I have been wanting to rescue a pit bull for some time, and I finally found the perfect one. His name is Francis. He was abused by his last owner, and they think he may have been used for fighting. Since he has no dog aggression, he was probably used as a bait dog (ie, he was tied up and other dogs were allowed to attack him while he was unable to defend himself.) I will post pictures of him soon! He is a little scarred up, and they cut the poor guy's ears off, but other than that he is a gorgeous dog.
He has the most amazing personality of any dog you will ever meet. He is a big, muscular ball of love. He will crawl into your lap for pets, and he gets so happy that he snorts and grunts like a pig. He is playful with the other dog, and hasn't shown an ounce of aggression.

IF YOU THINK PIT BULLS ARE SCARY, OR THAT THEY "TURN ON THEIR OWNERS", PLEASE COME TALK TO ME! These dogs are one of the most discrimmined breeds out there, and it is unfair. They are wonderful pets if trained properly. Are there some that bite and are "bad dogs"? YES. But there are also bad Labradors, Poodles, ANY DOG.
A Phd friend of mine did some research on pit bulls. She recalculated the numbers where they say that pit bulls have the highest number of bites. It is true that there are a greater number of dog bites from pits than from other breeds. HOWEVER, pit bulls are also the most common breed of dog (over 4 breeds of dogs and mixes are lumped into the category of "pit bull"). So when you figure out what PERCENTAGE of pit bulls bite, it is very low. In fact, LABRADORS RANKED AS BEING THE MOST LIKELY BREED OF DOG TO BITE. (Please note that I love labs and do not believe that they should be discrimminated against either!)
That being said, if you are thinking of getting a pit bull, do your research. Get one from a rescue, where they can tell you what the personality of the dog is like before you adopt it. They are not the dog for everyone and require an owner who is willing to spend A LOT of time training, socializing and exercising them. They are not the breed to stick outside on a chain!
