I Ache For You

Tue Oct 14, 2008, 12:31 PM
Here is the ugly truth about veterinary medicine, PETA, and anyone else you thought loved animals.

I have to euthanize a dog soon.

A beagle.

An adorable, healthy, young beagle, with soft fur and mournful hound eyes.
Why?

We have begun our surgery class. And there is one part I absolutely hate. We have to do a surgery on a dog and then we have to euthanize her.
I am so torn. It is so important to learn how to do surgery--I will be saving hundreds of animals lives in the future because of this dog. But it hurts me so bad that I have to take an animal's life to learn. It is such a paradox...to kill--learning to heal.
At first I wanted to wake her up and take her home, but I realize that it wouldn't be fair to her to put her through so much pain (which is worse, death or pain? Ask a man suffering of excruciating, terminal bone cancer and his answer might be different than yours.)

This is the worst part of this whole thing. We do not use pound puppies that are already on death row. No. Instead we use dogs that have been purposefully bred to die.
BECAUSE OF PETA! I used to support this group until I realized what disgusting hypocrits they are.

They felt it was unfair to use pound animals for educational purposes, because
1-the pound puppies aren't able to sign a contract saying they would like their bodies donated to science.
2-they could be someone's pet (but this is an illegitimate point--they are being put to sleep regardless, because no one claimed them at the shelter!!)
3-They thought animal shelters might not try as hard to get dogs adopted out. Shelters would start selling dogs to vet schools for profit. (This is the weakest point of all...Shelter worker don't care about money. Why else would they work at an animal shelter? If anything, it would help with the depression animal shelter workers experience, because at least they know the homeless dogs are going to a good cause before they die.) And PETA should talk! They euthanized over 90% of the animals that came through their "humane" societies last year.
90% !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure everyone has heard how they dumped a bunch of the bodies at a Piggly Wiggly [link]

They also support the slaughter of ALL pit bulls since they believe them to be a bad breed. Sure we love all animals. Except ones that happen to have a certain parentage. [link]

Whew! I had to rant there. If you want more crap on this organization, just ask me. (oh and by the way...HSUS is no better. But don't get me started on them.)
Don't make my mistake...do your research before you support something.
